The design and engineering firm has worked with OSS Health to create several of its facilities, including a new one in Enola, Pennsylvania.
Walking the halls of OSS Health’s West York campus offers the calming sensation of strolling along a babbling brook. Soft, curving lines in earth tones meander from floor to ceiling, while organic elements such as wood grain kiosks and divider walls embedded with grasses emit an aura of peacefulness.
Every element in the 40,000-square-foot facility was meticulously planned by mulá group.
Beyond the surface aesthetic, painstaking care went into designing safety features, climate-conscious HVAC systems, exit and lockdown plans, and elements that fulfill thousands of code regulations that relate to health care environments.
“Joe Mulá is very approachable,” says Chuck LaPorta, Director of Facilities and Construction as well as Safety Officer at OSS Health. “He’s the type of individual that will listen to you, you know, what are you looking for, kind of what is your vision, and then he’ll put all those pieces together before he gives an opinion, and he makes you very, very comfortable.”

Refreshing honesty and insight
LaPorta, with a diverse background in facilities management, construction, and even as an executive chef, joined OSS Health in 2019. His initial encounter with Mulá and his team left a lasting impression. Unlike other firms, mulá group focused on understanding OSS Health’s needs before presenting solutions, making LaPorta feel genuinely heard and comfortable.
mulá group came to the West York project with a refreshing honesty in addressing potential hurdles and a commitment to finding solutions. The team’s knowledge of complex codes and regulations, especially in the evolving health care sector, proved invaluable. Throughout the process, the genuine and calm demeanor of Mulá and his team helped make every interaction a positive and productive experience, LaPorta says.
Working with mulá group on various projects, including the construction of the West York location and a new facility in Enola, Pennsylvania, LaPorta has appreciated the seamless collaboration. The team’s ability to translate OSS Health’s vision into tangible designs, combined with its open communication and problem-solving skills, has made mulá group a trusted partner.
“When they do provide a service, it’s top shelf, you know, it’s top level, and they communicate extremely well,” LaPorta says.

Innovative and thoughtful design
As OSS Health’s Director of Imaging Services, Laura Franciscus has spent her career navigating that realm of health care. She spent years as a technologist before moving through the ranks of leadership.
When she began working at OSS Health in 2020, Franciscus was inspired by the innovative and thoughtful designs that mulá group had incorporated into the new West York facility. Dimmable lights created an ideal ambience throughout the day. A wall of windows let natural light fill the imaging room, a feature she rarely had seen in other facilities.
“If you’re the patient, it’s nice to have some natural light. Being able to see outside when you’re having your exam done, it kind of takes the pressure off,” she says. “It’s helpful to be able to look outside and think about other things and put your mind in a different place.”
Franciscus has enjoyed working with mulá group on the development of the imaging spaces at the Enola facility. The team not only considers technical aspects but incorporates patient-centric features, such as a full wall of windows in MRI rooms and extra sinks throughout exam areas. In her mind, this openness to innovative ideas and attention to detail have set mulá group apart in creating exceptional health care spaces.

A partner you can trust
mulá group’s willingness to listen, its adaptability to unique health care requirements, and a genuine, calm approach to design have made for a successful partnership with OSS Health, one that LaPorta and Franciscus hope will continue long into the future.
The collaboration extends beyond design and construction. It’s a relationship built on trust and a shared vision for the future of OSS Health. As the health care provider expands to meet growing orthopedic needs, mulá group remains a valuable partner in transforming visions into reality.
“You’re always looking for somebody that you can trust, somebody that you can feel comfortable with,” LaPorta says. “It’s not going to be right if you don’t connect on that level. It’s never going to be right. And to me, that’s where the connection happens. I know with OSS Health a lot of the work in the projects that the mulá group has helped us with in the design, we’ve been very happy with it and they’ve done a very nice job.”
